I am not just a German teacher, but also a musician and music teacher. I completed my State Exam in Music Education at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and my Masters of Music at the Musikhochschule Trossingen, Germany. I also studied music at Sydney Conservatorium, Australia, and Balinese gamelan music at the Indonesian Arts Institute (Institut Seni Indonesia) Denpasar, Bali. Beside my major piano I studied music theory, analysis and harmony, solfeggio, percussion, etc.
I have several years‘ work experience as an opera surtitler in Freiburg, Germany, and teaching elementary music classes as well as Balinese gamelan music in Basel, Switzerland. Besides classical Western music I play Balinese gamelan and I’m currently learning recorder and harmonica. Music for me is a way to feel joy, connect to myself and grow in compassion and awareness.

why learn music?

Nailing a rhythm you’ve struggled with, shaping the sound you really like, understanding the structure of a piece you love — all of this deepens your delight and expands what you can express. Skills don’t box music in; they set it free. And it is never, ever too late to begin. Whether you’re five or eighty-five, music will meet you where you are — and grow with you for the rest of your life.
Singing and exploring the voice

Classes are usually 45 minutes and can be weekly or as an intensive course. Group classes start at 6€ per person, individual classes at 25€ depending on your topic and course length.
basics of music
Learn the basics of music with songs and playing instruments like ukulele, piano, hand drums and recorder. Learn to play chords and accompany songs. (Private instruments required, lessons are online.)
balinese gamelan music
Learn instruments of the gamelan orchestra, e.g. gangsa, reyong, calung etc. Understand the structure of the music. Build a repertoire of pieces. (Private instruments required, lessons are online.)
musical notation
Learn how to read and understand Western notation. Write down rhythms, melodies and whole pieces, and create your own pieces too!
harmony and structure
Understand how chords work within the larger framework of harmony. Analyse musical pieces and learn the terminology of analysis.
music history
Explore the different periods of Western classical music and their characteristics. Listen to songs, operas, whole symphonies!
